Programme Structure

In the 1st semester, students will voyage on a foundational journey through essential disciplines. The curriculum includes Engineering Physics and Engineering Mathematics, which provide critical analytical skills and a solid understanding of physical principles. Complementing these are hands-on experiences in the Engineering Physics Lab and Basic Electrical Engineering Lab, fostering practical application of theoretical concepts. Additionally, students will engage in Engineering Graphics and Design, enhancing their visualisation and design skills. This semester is designed to establish a robust groundwork for future engineering studies, preparing students for the challenges ahead.

In the 2nd semester, students will build on their foundational knowledge with a diverse curriculum. The Basic Science component includes Chemistry 1 and its accompanying lab, fostering a strong understanding of chemical principles relevant to engineering. Engineering Mathematics 1 will enhance analytical skills essential for problem-solving. Students will also explore Programming for Problem-Solving, complemented by a practical lab, to develop computational skills critical for modern engineering challenges. Additionally, the Workshop/Manufacturing Practices course will provide hands-on experience in fabrication techniques. Humanities courses, including English and its lab, will enhance communication skills, preparing students for professional environments.

In the 3rd semester of the B.Tech in Internet of Things program, students will build a strong foundation in essential programming and data management skills. Core courses include Data Structure & Algorithms and Object Oriented Programming, complemented by practical experience in their respective labs. The IT Workshop fosters hands-on learning and real-world application of concepts. Students will also explore Engineering Science through Digital Electronics and its associated lab, enhancing their understanding of electronic systems. Additionally, Mathematics III will strengthen analytical skills crucial for problem-solving in technology. The semester culminates with Summer Institutional Training, providing valuable industry exposure and practical experience.

In the 4th semester, students will delve into critical theoretical and practical aspects of computing. Core courses include Discrete Mathematics, Operating Systems, and Design & Analysis of Algorithms, each accompanied by hands-on lab sessions to reinforce learning. The Engineering Science course, Computer Organization & Architecture, provides insights into the fundamental structure and functioning of computer systems. Additionally, the mandatory course on Environmental Sciences emphasises the importance of technology sustainability. The semester also includes Universal Human Values 2, fostering ethical awareness and social responsibility, which are essential for future leaders in the tech industry.

In the 5th semester, students will engage with advanced concepts critical to IoT and networking. Core courses include Database Management Systems, Formal Language & Automata Theory, Internet of Things, and Computer Networks, each supported by dedicated lab sessions for practical application. Students will also select one Professional Elective Course and its corresponding lab to tailor their learning experience. The Engineering Science course on Embedded Systems provides insights into hardware-software integration. Additionally, the mandatory course on the Constitution of India or Essence of Indian Traditional Knowledge enriches students’ understanding of societal frameworks.

In the 6th semester, students will explore advanced topics essential for the evolving landscape of IoT. Core courses include Industrial IoT and Network Security & Cryptography, focusing on integrating IoT in industrial settings and safeguarding data integrity. Students will also choose two Professional Elective Courses, each accompanied by a lab, allowing for specialised learning and hands-on experience. A significant project will challenge students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering innovation and problem-solving skills. This semester prepares students for the complexities of modern IoT applications and security challenges in various industries.

Empowering Education with Infrastructure

Servers
The College has its own mail server and mail accounts are given to all the students and faculty. Three high-end dual processor-based IBM servers with redundant power supply are totally dedicated to these services.

Campus Wide Networking
To provide access to the central computing facilities and Internet access throughout the campus, an optical fiber-based 100 Mbps backbone campus wide area network has been implemented in the college. This network connects all the departments, hostels and faculty residences. The latest managed layer-3 and layer-2 switches and optical fiber physical medium has been used to implement this project which currently serves some 300+ nodes in the college. The process of establishing wireless hotspots to make the campus Wi-Fi enabled is underway.

Computing Hardware
Department has around 300+ branded HP, Wipro and IBM desktop computers having the latest configurations to satisfy the computing requirements for various laboratories and project work of students. High-end workstations and servers have been made available for special applications like simulations and central computing in the department.

Software
Almost all the major software required by students and researchers has been made available in the department. This includes all the major server and desktop operating systems, databases, application software, Matlab, CASE tools like Rational Rose and software development platforms.

Data Structure & Programming Methodology Lab
The lab provides the students with a fairly good concept of the fundamentals of data structures and also of the commonly occurring algorithms. It presents the general approach towards analyzing and evaluating and implementing the database algorithms.

Relational Database Management System Lab
This lab provides exposure to use databases and build an RDBMS. For this, they are provided with the server based ORACLE software. To make them learn more effectively, students are given projects for implementation.

Computer Network Laboratory
The Computer Network Laboratory provides students with comprehensive training in various networking technologies, offering substantial exposure to both the design and implementation of networks. The lab features an extensive campus-wide network testbed that allows students to engage in real-time experiments. Through hands-on experience, students learn to design, implement, secure, analyze, and manage networks effectively.

System Programming Laboratory
The System Programming Laboratory focuses on the design and functionality of interpreters and compilers. The primary objective is to deepen students' understanding of the processes involved in parsing and analyzing source code. By working in this lab, students gain practical insights into the complexities of system programming and the mechanisms underlying code interpretation and compilation.

Operating System Lab
This lab allows the students to study and appreciate various features of popular operating system i.e. LINUX along with the features of the core and its kernel.

Software Engineering Lab
The students are acquainted with the repertoire of principles, tools, and techniques (like Rational Rose) and the approach being used in industry for software development.

Data Communication Lab
This lab provides students with in-depth knowledge of data communication technologies. The Lab is equipped with the latest data communication trainers, LAN trainers, simulators and test & measurement equipment.

Fundamentals of Computer Programming And Information Technology Lab
This lab provides the much-needed exposure to the basic programming language and information technology to help students to effectively exploit the potential of computers in the course of studies and their preparedness for professional life.

Computer Graphics Lab
This lab further hones the programming skills of the student by inculcating the knowledge of using graphics like Rendering, animation, and modeling for interactive computer graphics.

Internet of Things Lab
Class Rooms: A projector uses light to project an enlarged image on a screen allowing the view of a small document or picture to be shared with a large student.
